Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television reporter, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as an general reporter. From 1981 onwards, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she became the chief congressional reporter. In 1992, she was made chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both a host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. She served on an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-contra scandal, the tax reform and the budget and also the arms control. She traveled widely together with President Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
